Секст Помпей – «Нептуна мнимый сын»?

В статье рассматривается прозвище «сын Нептуна», которое, как считается, принял Секст Помпей. Обзор материалов показывает, что Секст Помпей активно подчеркивал покровительство, которое оказывает ему Нептун, но при этом нет никаких недвусмысленных указаний на то, что он указывал на свое происхождение от бога. «Сыном Нептуна» именуют его только более поздние авторы. На основе анализа ритуала жертвоприношения, которое Секст совершал после морской победы, в статье высказывается предположение, что эти жертвы приносились не Нептуну, а Посейдону в соответствии с греческой практикой. Объяснение этого может заключаться в том, что сицилийские греки были надежной опорой власти Секста на острове. Вполне вероятно, что прозвище «сын Посейдона», превратившееся у римских авторов в «сын Нептуна», он получил именно от греков. В дальнейшем эту тему могла подхватить октавиановская пропаганда, поскольку Сицилия в римских представлениях была связана с рядом чудовищных порождений владыки морей. Таким образом, имя «сын Нептуна» несло в себе не только положительную нагрузку, но и довольно сильные отрицательные ассоциации.
