Новая политическая реальность, наступившая для милетян после 133 г. до н.э. в результате создания провинции Азия, заставила их быстро адаптироваться к политике Рима, в том числе и в религиозной сфере: был учрежден культ богини Ромы и римского народа. Однако проявленная в ходе первой Митридатовой войны нелояльность привела к упразднению ключевого праздника в городе – Дидимей. В конце 60-х годов до н.э. празднество удается восстановить, вероятно, благодаря посредничеству Гнея Помпея. После этого лояльность города всячески подчеркивалась, а близость представителей городской элиты к Юлию Цезарю и Октавиану Августу позволяла даже получать привилегии. Это привело к тому, что город одним из первых утвердил императорский культ, а уроженец Милета Гай Юлий Эпикрат стал верховным жрецом не только муниципального, но и провинциального культа. В свою очередь, фигура Августа стала почитаться в Дидимах наравне с главным божеством – Аполлоном.
